WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2006
Review by Krake123
"The only and best wrestling game ever on a portable device"
The Smackdown VS Raw (from now on I'm going to call it SVR) series started on 2004. Before that, there were the old Smackdown wrestling games. Yes, they were called Smackdown, but they did include Raw superstars. The first SVR that was released on 2004 had a few flaws, and that's mainly why it went downhill. Until today, the best wrestling games were "No Mercy" and "Here comes the pain!". Simply great, and you can only know it by trying it yourself. But then, in 2005, they released SVR06 which was greatly improved. It got first out on the PS2, and now it is on the PSP also. The gameplay part got completly improved, combat got better, cutscenes got better, the rosters got bigger, and a lot more. And now, if you allow me, let's go into more detailed information.
Gameplay - Suddenly, to everyone's surprise, the gameplay got way better then "No Mercy" and "Here comes the pain!". Sure, the "Walk" function got sacrificed since SVR, but this time it was worthy. Fights got way better now. Now, you can't accumulate finishing moves, you only get 1 slot, and the move won't stay there forever. Sure, you can make it stay there, but the move is going to be significantly weaker. Also, when the opponent attacks you, by your superstar's name, it says if you should press L or R to reverse the move, which is a good thing for new people to the wrestling games. The roster got bigger, now you can play as Hulk Hogan, and it sure feels damn good! You start with a weak version of Hogan, but then you can buy the stronger version, also called "Hogan 80's" in the game. Once again, like always, you can buy stuff like superstars, etc. There's challenges you can complete to get things, which is good. Also, there's the general manager mode, which is a little flawed... It's good to play, and the name explains it, but it just feels like a little flawed... I dunno, maybe it could have more interactions for you to do or cutscenes... Anyway, we're done here, and let's move on. - 10/10
Story - You've got Season mode, which is the Story mode. Pity is that it is way too short. The cutscenes are very well animated. - 8/10
Graphics - They're good for a portable game. The crowds are 2D, and everything looks just fine! - 9/10
Sound - Everything sounds fine. About the music... It's rock and rap music, and either you like or not. - 8/10
Play Time/Replayability - It should last you for like 30 hours or so. However it probably won't feel good playing it all over again... - 10/10
Final Recommendation - Definitely buy it if you don't have the console version! It's a great game for a portable device.
