Grand Theft Auto: Liberty City Stories
Review by Krake123
"If not perfect for a handheld game, it's semi-perfect!"
As most people of the world knows, Grand Theft Auto (I will refer it from now on as GTA) is a famous action game set on modern times. It has always had great graphics (depending on the year it was made and gaming platform), being it 2D or 3D. For the sound and gameplay, well, they went just well like everything else on a GTA game. It all started on the first simply called GTA. Then we had an add-on for GTA called 1969 London. That was followed by GTA 2, with better 2D graphics. Then they released GTA 3, this time fully in 3D and with a lot of new features. Then came one of the GTA's I most like, GTA Vice City, with improved graphics, sound, and gameplay from GTA 3. And then came GTA San Andreas, simply one of the best GTA games ever made. And to finish, they released GTA Liberty City Stories, for the first time on the PSP. It has even better graphics, sound, and gameplay then GTA 3 on the PS2. But after all this chat, let's talk about GTA LCS.
Gameplay - It totally blew me away. Really! It has the usual story missions and side missions. I would say story missions are like 20 hours of gameplay. But when you finish those... There's side missions and whole lot more to do! Side missions are cop chase missions, ambulance missions, taxi missions, firetruck missions, car salesman missions, etc... Not only you do get rewards if you reach a certain number or level on one of these, you are on your way to having 100%. After you do all those side missions (there are around 15 side missions), you can collect hidden packages, which when you collect a certain number of them, you get a reward. And there's a lot more. There's a lot of vehicles, you got cars, bikes, boats... Also, the missions are easy enough in my opinion. About the controls... You can set 3 types of controls to your liking, so if you don't like the default one, choose another! - 10/10
Story - You are Tony Cipriani, a member of a mafia family. The year is 1998. The city you are in is called Liberty City. It's the worst place in America, lots of crimes, killing, robbery, etc... Tony killed a Made Man so now you gotta go and fix it up to reach the top again. Then it's all bullets and blood. It's a good story overall. Even your mother gets in your way. - 9/10
Graphics - They're simply superb for a handheld... There's cutscenes with voices and stuff, reflections, lighting, texture, draw distance, etc... They're all good! And there is almost no slowdowns! Only a bit when the screen is too crowded. Loading times are also 5-10 seconds, nothing more. Great stuff, trust me. - 10/10
Sound - Everything is realistic here... Bullets have good sounds, footsteps are good, rain sound is good, etc... Soundtrack is not the best though... I'm talking about the radio stations, because everything is just fine... However, I think most of the musics suck and aren't recognizable. I'm only giving it a 9/10 instead of a 10/10 because of that. - 9/10
Play Time/Replayability - About play time... It is very big, I'm telling you. Maybe ranges from 40 hours to 100. Depends on how well you do on the game. And replayability is good too, if you finish the game completely, I think you could do it all again, it should be the same fun. - 10/10
Final Recommendation - Buy it! Even if you rent it, I'm sure you won't be able to play it all! And besides, it's well worth the buy!
