Top 10 Lists : The Top 10 Wii Games That Make The Best Use Of The WiiMote

- So the Wii’s been with us for quite a while now, with its innovating system and game-play it was not surprise that many developers may jump into the Nintendo Wagon and do a lot of games that can exploit the abilities this console offers. Sadly, is not being like that and only a handful of good games that use the WiiMote and Nunchuk are actually available in the stores. Of all the games out there, I think these are the Top ten Wii games that make the better use of the WiiMote and the Nunchuk.

- A port from the PS2 may not be a likely way to start a Wii list, but Okami makes a lot of good use from the WiiMote, since your success in the game is based on how good you can paint with the controller. It might feel imprecise sometimes, and trying to make a circle is quite difficult, but the idea of holding a magical pencil with your hand and draw over your TV screen is priceless for this first choice.

- Not just because this game is sold with a WiiMote, but because it offers a lot of fun mini-games to enjoy. Laser Hockey, balloon shooting, Table Tennis, Fishing, are only a few of the mini-games you can play while all of them squeeze quite a lot of the WiiMote potential. This game is actually better to be use to calibrate your WiiMote, which also adds a good level of usefulness to the conjunct.

- One of the first WiiWare titles to appear, it’s actually the best one to date. It uses the combination of WiiMote and Nunchuk quite uniquely, since you control two characters at the same time. With the Nunchuk you control Toku, a little boy who’s the main protagonist, while with the WiiMote you control the spirit of the wind, that will help Toku to reach areas he can’t by himself. It’s actually pretty fun to just scribble over the screen and the see the trees and clothes of the people moving by the force of your wind.

- Your WiiMote is a car wheel! That’s why it’s sold next to a peripheral that resembles such a thing, and guess what? It’s pretty fun! It allows you to experience the speed of your kart while saving the need to buy an entire driving wheel equipment for your console. It might feel a bit awkward to just spin the WiiWheel (that’s what is called) on the empty air, but the fun you have with it is impossible to match.

- In the words of Ben Yhatzee, “this game is a rail shooter, you point at something you want dead and you keep pressing the button until it dies, something that seems correct for what the Wii was designed”. He was right. Umbrella Chronicles might not be the best Resident Evil game, but it turns your WiiMote into a Light Gun and your Wii into an Arcade machine. Add the fact that you have QTE’s and that point and shooting is winning formula and you get yourself a game that exploits quite well the capacities of the WiiMote.

- With Star Wars: The Force Unleashed yet to come, this game showed what many Lightsabre fans were wanting to see out there. Your WiiMote transforms into a Lightsabre katana, for you to wield it around in order to slash in tiny bits every single assassin that comes in your way. Personally, I actually enjoy a lot when you are not wielding your katana, and you play with your cat, or do a part time job, which are actually the parts that exploit the control the most. Wield a Lightsabre is very fun and feels really awesome, but play with your cat moving a fluffy stick is just priceless.

- The launch title that showed everybody what the Wii could be used to. Up to five sports to play with, you can choose Tennis, Golf, Baseball, Bowling and Boxing. This last one, Boxing, makes a great use out of the WiiMote + Nunchuk combo, turning your hands into boxing gloves and allowing you to smash the heck out of an NPC or one of your friends (or enemies). It might feel a bit old right now, after so much tennis and bowling, but it is still funny playing with it.

- Another Mini-game format based videogame, but quite fun and intuitive as well. When the Wario Ware franchise was taken to the current gen programmers had to find a way to show the gamers how to wield the WiiMote in order to complete the minigames successfully. A total of five poses that can be applied to all the possible micro-games that Wario Ware offers, among which can be counted flying a paper airplane, hold a brush on your hand without letting it fall, or take the mine out of a mechanical pencil. This game put a lot of smiles on people’s faces, and cramps on their arms.

- If the first Metroid Prime showed that when you don’t have the support of a Mouse based control for an FPS you can apply to it a lock-on targeting system, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption is the crystallization of that system. You get to see your WiiMote as a mouse, while the Nunchuk is the equivalent of the keyboard. You can lock-on the targets, but also point freely everywhere you want, that allows you to take care of the enemies that attack you out of your locking range. As for the Nunchuk, is not just used to move around, but to hook on the enemies and tare their shields and armours down. In this game, your WiiMote contains all the power of Samus’ cannon.

- The first time you saw the WiiMote, what did you think of it? Okay, that can be answered many ways, I will re-write the question. The first time you saw it, what did you thought it could be? Whatever you thought, it surely is contained into Zack and Wiki, because this game makes the WiiMote be so many things is amazing: A fishing rod, a racket, an umbrella, a ring bell, a driller, a hammer, a lever, a mirror, a phone! You name it, the game has it. Capcom made their best at squeezing the potential the WiiMote had, so much and so good even Nintendo should feel ashamed for not thinking on what Zack and Wiki offers to the casual gamer or to the hardcore gamer. Also, out of the actual mini-game based format, the game controls pretty well too, with a point and click control that works very well for this 3D adventure game.

So I think that these ten games make very good use of the Wii and its revolutionary controls, while the future shows some other games that may surely get on this list like the already mentioned The Force Unleashed, MadWorld and into the FPS genre, The Conduit.
