Rockman_CXDEZZR's Ironman Review.
I'm going to start off by saying, don't let the low score fool you, I DO personally like this game. It has a very unique style of gameplay that's nothing like your typical straight forward action beat um style of gameplay that Ive come to expect from super hero movie based games. . Ironman does have a few glaring faults though that can really take away some of the enjoyment from the game
Gameplay/Controls
The Flight aspect is the selling point of this game and it's pretty fun once you get the hang of it. I'd say your flying about 90% of the game so you'll have plenty of time to get the hang of it.
You progress through levels by flying (or in a very few cases running) to the intended target and either destroying or protecting said target. The cool part about each mission though is the very wide open environment you have to get the job done. Besides the first mission you never face a pre-set path you have to follow.
Now I have to agree with another reviewer who said his Only gripe is that to ascend you hold L. To hover in place you hold L halfway. This is a prime example of one of my major gripes with Ironman's gameplay. Ironman has TONS of wasted features. Because of the awkward controls you never really need to USE the hover feature. Another good example of wasted features would be melee/grappling. Yes you CAN do it, but other then maybe two spots through out the game, fighting with anything other then your repulsers and missiles would be pointless. (and don't even think about trying to catch and re-direct a missile unless you want about 10 more missiles right in your face,)
So to sum it up, the Flight and Ariel combat is fun and you'll be doing it plenty through out the game, but if your wanting to get up close and personal with the bad guys you'll be playing the first stage quite a bit as that's the only level it's really worth using it.
Graphics/Sound
I barely pay any attention to sound in a game. It take either really great music or really bad (and in a *very* few cases good) voice acting to get me to notices. Ironman has neither. So sound really isn't an issue to worry about in this game.
The Graphics, much like the sound is just so so. It's not ugly but it's not going to blow your mind any more then most every other 360/PS3 game.
Story
Like all movie based games the story not only follows the movie but also adds some original content. You'll face off against classic Ironman foe who weren't in the movie such as Boris Bullski aka the Titanium Man as well as the terrorist group AIM.
Chances are if you like the movie story then you'll probably like the games story as well
Difficulty
The difficulty in this game is not stable, the first 4 level are pretty easy, levels 5-7 are noticeably harder. Then the levels get a little easier (level 9 being much easier) and then they start to get pretty hard again.
One really fun part of the game though is the fact you can't just jump into a mob of enemies and expect to come out, you WILL be destroyed. It makes you have to think out a plan of attack instead of just charging the enemies and moving on.
In the end I'd say Ironman is a moderately challenging game with a few extra hard parts in it. I'd expect to die a few time on most of the mission until you find out the best plan of attack.
Length/Replayability
This games story mode is not long at all. I'd say from beginning to end with out dying it'll take you maybe 3:00-4:00 hours to beat. Add all the deaths you'll face your first time through and your still looking at a short game.
The game also features ONE MAN ARMY mode which is essentially a survival mode that pits you against one of the enemy groups you've fought already for 10 minutes while you try to destroy 80 enemies. The problem is the mission ends after 80 enemies, so there's no going back to better your score and once you beat the mission once to unlock the new armor there's really no need to ever play it again.
The game's replayability is just as short
.meaning there isn't any
Once you unlock and try all the armors and if your on the 360 version get all the achievements there's nothing else to do. It can all be done in two runs through the story mode (if your super awesome and play on the formidable difficulty the first time through you can get it all done on your first run.)
After that the only thing keeping you coming back is the games fun factor, which IS there, but most likely though you'll be done with it in a couple of days.
Rent or Buy:
I'd suggest you rent it and see if you like it. If you do then buy it =)
Final Score: 6/10
One Final Note
I own the 360 version so I'm not sure how it's like on other systems, but some info to keep in mind. The game does lag some at times and some people (myself included) have experienced a glitch after you beat the last boss where your X-box may freeze.
