Review by Rick
"You know, Sunsoft made the Game Boy FF games too..."
There are an extreme shortage of Addams Family games, and this must be why. There's nothing really that entertaining about this game.
Graphics: 4/10
Probably a 6th generation NES title, but looks like a 2nd generation title. Fester walks, well, funny. It's like as you're walking, his feet automatically switch directions when you're walking without being animated at all. This is how a lot of enemies look in this game as well. The only things that look smooth in this game are the crabs. Okay, shut up. I'm talking about the little toad/crab alien thingies. Slowdown doesn't happen that much since there's not that much action going on. Foregrounds and backgrounds are hard to tell between the two, and as for the scenery, well, that's not a tree. Is it? Wait, that's a power-up. No wait, ah screw it.
Sound: 6/10
The music isn't half-bad for NES music. The sound effects stick to annoying bloops. Not your regular MIDI bloops, bad bloop bloops. Yes, I'm always this confusing and disturbed.
Gameplay: 3/10
You are Fester of the Addams Family. The world is invaded by aliens and you have to destroy them with various guns and whips with bullets that are supposed to look like... something, obviously. You collect keys to unlock the doors in houses with your lovely family members in them who will be happy to give you some items. (i.e. Pugsley give you TNT or Thing gives you Noose) Enemies can be very hard to kill, others require a certain weapon, and others are bosses that look like crud. This is basically an overhead adventure game with character design reminding me of rehashed Saturday Night Live sketch characters. You run around above streets, where you can get Hot Dogs to regain your health (don't ask) and Light Bulbs for the Sewers, and then venture into the Sewers where you find weird looking rats and annoying bulbs that multiply when you shoot them. So basically the game itself sucks, but so does the control, which is slow, unresponsive, and at times downright akward.
Overall Fun Factor: 3/10
If you are a die-hard Addams Family fan, give it a shot. All others, apply elsewhere. Sunsoft made some pretty crap games. Seeya! --Rick >:P
