James Bond 007: NightFire
Review by The FPS Dude
"An Excellent piece of work! Make sure it's a copy of your collection!"
James Bond 007 Nightfire is a really good game so I decided to an FAQ/Walkthrough on it as well as a review.
Story 10
A really a enjoyable and bond type story line to follow along to. You new nemesis this time is Rafael Drake. For once we have some decent and entertaining cut scenes in a game. It's starts in Paris, nearing midnight on New Years Eve. Domnique Paradis, from the French Intelligence is in a bit of a muddle on the road. While trying to stop an explosives truck she gets into a bit a jam with cars after her. They are coming from MI6's chief suspect Rafael Drake. Of course you save the day but that's only the first mission. There are twelve action packed missions in different locations. As you discover more about Drake and his plans the missions will grow harder in difficulty. The story really deserves an award or something as they seemed to have really put some effort in on it.
Gameplay 9
The gameplay shows the success of this game into your eyes and entertainment. You can choose from three difficulty modes, operative, agent and 00 agent. They vary in difficulty and get harder as well as the levels. There are three types of way you can play 007 Nightfire all in a first person shooter type way. There's a normal way, where you go through levels on foot. There's a driving type way where you drive a car on land and in the water. There are three different vehicles you can play as but one needs to be unlocked. The last one is called rail shooter type missions. It's a type of mission where you're like on the weapons of a vehicle and you have your girl friend driving it. They're all fun to play though. There are loads of weapons and gadgets available it's unbelievable. These range from your usual wrist laser watch, to the Phoenix Samurai Laser Gun. If you complete a level well you can unlock new things. You can earn medals if you complete a level well. These unlock new features for the multi player mode or a weapon upgrade. However you can't just earn these with your eyes shut, especially in the higher missions. Once you've got a gold however you get a bigger challenge next of getting platinum. For this you have to collect all 007 tokens spread and hidden around the level. The enemies are at usual standard for the usual difficulty. If you're on 00 agent mode though don't expect an easy ride. Sometimes they can be armed with grenades, as well as some pretty powerful weapons. However the gameplay isn't all that perfect. If you're stuck on the same mission for a while it can get a bit boring so if you're playing on a harder difficulty you can expect it. I'm giving a rating of nine as it isn't perfect still very good.
Multiplayer 9
I'm putting this as an exclusive (exclusive for me) addition to this review. The multiplayer can be quite enjoyable at time to tell the truth. You can play it with you mates and also on your own. You can choose from a long range of character and AI bots. Some you might recognize from previous James Bond Films. If they're bad guys they are found in the Phoenix section and if they're good guys, the MI6 section. These include characters like Goldfinger and Oddjob. You can also have Jaws. You have a good range of scenarios ranging from the normal arena or a quick game to capture the flag. These can be played over a wide range of multiplayer levels from the game and other places. However playing the game shows a different side to multimode. It can be enjoyable for a while but after you're quite used to it. You can choose the type of weapons you have in the level ranging from cloak and dagger to state of the art. The game also includes a professional mode that lets you have your normal weapon and one other weapon. Playing the level, you also earn points for you or your team for killing people. You can set a time limit for the game and first to so many points. There are so many things you can do with the game in the options you forget about some of them.
Graphics 10
There's really nothing wrong about the graphics in the game. The affects they do when you fire a weapon is good, especially with the Phoenix Samurai Laser beam. The enemies and other character are well detailed and the backgrounds make it look just like the real thing. There doesn't seem to be many glitches in the game as I have not come across any yet so that can really round up the whole of the graphics section. A well deserved ten out of ten and an example of the sort of graphics all first person shooter games should be like.
Sound 10
I'm giving the sounds ten as well. The music during the levels can be good, bond style and towards the end. I want to point out one of the best pieces of music in the game at the last level, Equinox; I like that one. Of course there's the usual bond theme music in there and other bond, music. The Nightfire credits part at the end of Paris Prelude is good. The noises people speeches people say when you talk to them at the party in the exchange are a bit repetitive but it doesn't really get on your nerves to much. There's nothing wrong with the voices in the cut scene. For once the voice of characters speaking is actually quite decent.
Controls 10
The controls are good and there's nothing really wrong with them. You have a wide range of controls for the game each with a control name of a bond film. Seeing there's a wide range of controls, coming to the game it should be easy to use. Just pick the one that suits you really. There's nothing wrong with controlling the crosshairs. It's easier than in other First person shooter games I've played. To round the section up they've given a wide variety of controls you can use but this is probably a change from the picking your own controls section. I like the choosing your own controls type best but anyway, I'm still going to give it ten.
Buy: yes
I got this game a while after it came out but I going to put it as when it came out. When it came out I'd definitely buy it and is worth the money. You can get it cheaper now so there's even more of a go and get it. I'd buy the game when it came out or now. A real classic and deserves all the awards it gets (that are good).
