GameCube

Review by Gigatek

"Nintendo is the greatest!!!"

After all these years, Nintendo never ceases to amaze me. Day after day, year after year, videogame consoles and handhelds get better and better. Nintendo is probably the king of both videogames and their consoles. I strongly recommend that you get the Gamecube, because it's sure worth it.

It all started with the NES. 8-Bit gaming wasn't too bad, but when Sega decided to improve videogame history and create the 16-bit Genesis, Nintendo did too. Therefore, the SNES, being one of the best consoles ever developed, arrived into existence.

Then, there was 32-bit gaming. Sega created the 32X, while Nintendo fell because of the Visualboy. 64-Bit gaming soon came. The N64 went into competition with the PSX, and the Sega Saturn.

Now, a new war begins. Nintendo creates the legendary Gamecube. This console had excellent graphics, excellent audio, and a fun library of great games. The PS2, Xbox, and Dreamcast (although the Dreamcast died early) tried to outmatch the Gamecube, but personally, I think that they're no match for it.

The Gamecube is supported with one of the best games ever. Who cares if the library of games isn't as big as the PS2 or the Xbox? Quantity never matters; quality does. With games like Super Smash Bros. Melee, Super Mario Sunshine, Megaman Network Transmission, Sonic Adventure 2: Battle, Sonic Adventure SX, Sonic Mega Collection, Starfox Adventures, Metroid Prime, and a whole lot more!!

The graphics were extremely well done, better than that of the N64. Games like Super Mario Sunshine, Metroid Prime, and Pikmin had awesome graphics. There are no clipping problems, blocky graphics, or anything of that sort. The graphics on the Gamecube, as far as I'm concerned, are flawless.

The sounds are also very nice. Super Smash Bros. Melee and Megaman Network Transmission are examples of games that have both good sound effects and voice samples. Some games make good use of the Gamecube's hardware, and thus, they have fantastic results.

The Gamecube's controller features a control stick, just like the N64, except that it's been moved to the side, making the controller easier to hold. Because of this, 3D games are relatively simple to control. The control stick makes a huge difference, especially in 3D games like Starfox Adventures, and Sonic Adventure 2: Battle.

The Gamecube also consists of the feature to save and load onto a memory card, just like the PSX. Saving and loading is very useful, and memory cards aren't that expensive either. Also, there are four controller slots, meaning that you can have up to four people playing at a time.

Not only that, but the Gamecube is small and easy to carry. Don't underestimate the size of its discs either, because those discs carry a lot of memory. Nintendo corrected the N64's mistake, and instead of using game carts, they now use compact discs, which can hold a tremendous amount of memory.

The Gamecube, however, has a problem. The PS2 and Xbox have a head start and already have a lot of games. The Gamecube has only a few, and although I think that quality is always better than quantity, the Gamecube should have more games than it has now. It would just do the system some good.

Luckily, Nintendo has some supporters on their side. Companies such as Rare, Sega (yes, they're supporting the Gamecube too), Capcom, Namco, and a whole lot of others are currently developing games for the Gamecube. Videogame companies are respected, especially when they make fun games for the console that you support.

Just like the Gameboy and N64, you can choose the color of your Gamecube, which is excellent. Other than that, you can also use the Gameboy player to play Gameboy games on your TV!!! Now that really makes it fun!

Oen of the Gamecube's greatest advantages is the ability to connect to the Gameboy Advance. Not only are you able to play Gameboy Advance games on your TV, but by doing so, special effects will occur if you link the right Gameboy Advance game with the correct Gamecube game (example: connecting Metroid Prime with Metroid Fusion will allow you to trade suits).

All in all, the Gamecube is a great console, better than the PS2 and the Xbox. But if the graphics, sounds, games, and the amount of memory is already that great, what new consoles will Nintendo develop next?

I heard that Sony's going to make the Playstation 3, and that Microsoft's developing the Xbox 2, but what's Nintendo's secret weapon? Only time will tell, but for now, the Gamecube's enough for me.

To this day, I think that Nintendo is truly the king of videogames. Fans of this legendary company will think so too. Sony, Microsoft, and Sega have played a great part, but Nintendo catches my attention. From the NES to the Gamecube, and from the Gameboy to the Gameboy Advance SP, this company will be remembered for a long, long time.

Overall, you should really get the Gamecube. Not only is the hardware better, but its small size and the impressive library of great games really make it worth buying. I have a Gamecube myself, and I'm not disappointed. Plus, having the ability to play Gameboy games and connect to your Gameboy Advance really makes it near perfect. I highly recommend getting it.
